Architecture, Art, and Nature in the heart of the Crete Senesi in Asciano.
Route description:
The route will take you through the many streets of the ancient village of Asciano, uncovering the architectural secrets of old palaces, churches, and fountains!
Accompanied by an archaeologist, you will discover some lesser-known aspects of the region and its evolution over the centuries: from the ancient stonemasons who worked the local stones to the master ceramicists who filled an entire neighborhood in the historic center, decorating the village with plaques and sacred icons.
The walk will continue inside the halls of the Museum of Palazzo Corboli, an important historic palace that also hides a medieval tower within its three floors. As we explore the frescoed rooms and numerous galleries filled with masterpieces from the 14th and 15th centuries of Sienese painting, we will seek out a "Nature made into Art"!
