A fascinating itinerary faithfully retracing the ancient roads and paths once taken by pilgrims centuries ago, journeying from Asciano in the Crete Senesi to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Vertighe in the Valdichiana.

A Camaldolese monk wrote in the 1500s that in the 12th century, a chapel miraculously relocated from the Crete Senesi and came to rest on the hill where the sanctuary now stands. Since then, every July 7, this miracle became the inspiration for a pilgrimage, with people from both valleys walking to honor the sacred event—a tradition kept alive until the post-WWII era.

This pilgrimage offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the history and spirituality of the region, passing through castles, old inns, medieval villages, and finally arriving at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Vertighe, which still houses the relocated chapel and a precious Renaissance fresco.
