From ancient documents we have rediscovered the passionate activity of its millers, who after having ground the grain, they would sell it in the prosperous market that took place in Piazza del Grano, at the time called Market Square.
From the panoramic terrace it’s possible to admire the Priests Mill, with its adjacent waterfall known as Lama. This is the most ancient mill, mentioned for the first time in the papal bull of Alexander IIIrd, in 1178.
The river called Bestina, furnished water to most of the mills of Asciano.
