L’Eroica was born in 1997 in Gaiole in Chianti, a small village in the province of Siena. Here, 92 seekers of emotions and feelings kicked off the first edition of a magical cycling event that, every year, uniquely combines challenging routes, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable refreshment stops.

Today, L’Eroica stands as a model for enhancing environmental heritage, promoting a sustainable lifestyle, and embracing clean cycling that, by looking to the past, offers a vision for the future.

Its international success is overwhelming; over 7,000 registered participants (registration is capped) come from all over the world, and around 15,000 people animate the gentle hills and villages of Siena on the first Sunday of October!

There are several routes, including those that pass through the Crete Senesi of Asciano:

CENTO ROUTE "Val d'Arbia" - 106 km
A route through the Crete Senesi, challenging yet accessible for many, thanks to a manageable length and elevation gain.

MEDIUM ROUTE "Crete Senesi" - 135 km
We’re already in the realm of Eroica legend, but this route is still accessible to many cyclists. Travel time can reach 10-12 hours or more. This route includes the famous climb of Monte Sante Marie - the true challenge is to stay on the pedals all the way up!

LONG ROUTE "The Heroic One" - 209 km
This is the most authentic "Eroica" experience, with over 3,700 meters of elevation gain. The ride lasts at least 15 hours, with the last riders returning to Gaiole in Chianti even after 10:00 p.m.

Along the Eroica route, you can experience the most intense and captivating spirit of the Siena province, a land full of unparalleled landscapes and historic villages, among the most beautiful in Italy!

We look forward to welcoming you to the historic village of Asciano, the heart of the Crete Senesi, and to the unique landscape of the Crete Senesi of Asciano, to cheer on the cyclists and take in the breathtaking views stretching to the borders of the Siena province! Asciano welcomes the “heroic riders” at the gates of the historic center, with a well-stocked refreshment point at the Scuderie del Granduca.
